4 Ways to Update Your Home’s Exterior to Increase Curb Appeal

the interior of your house to look nice, especially if you’re trying to attract prospective buyers, but you can boost curb appeal by enhancing the exterior of your home. Here are four things you can do to increase your home's curb appeal:

Add a Fresh Coat of Paint

You don't need to make drastic changes to the exterior of your home to boost curb appeal. A simple coat of paint can help upgrade your house’s appearance instantly. Your home’s color can become faded over time; paint can peel or chip off very easily the older it gets. This is especially true if you live in an area with an exceptionally hot or cold climate.

Wind, rain and sunlight can be punishing on your house’s paint job, so it’s a good idea to add a fresh coat every so often, especially if you’re getting ready to sell. Make sure you choose either the matching color of your original paint job or, at the very least, a color that fits with the style of your home.

Add Lights to Your Home

You can enhance your home and yard with some simple lighting. Having lights around the exterior of your property, especially your front yard, will make it easier to see outside at night. The lighting can enhance some of the best features of your house, putting them on display for anyone driving by at night.

Lighting can also serve as a security measure, as a properly illuminated front yard will deter most potential burglars, since it will be difficult to sneak around your property without being noticed. You could also consider adding or updating your porch lights and making sure your house number is illuminated. This will make it easy for you to identify any nighttime guests and make it easier for them to find your house in turn.

Update Your Roof

If you have a new roof, you can expect it to last about 20 to 25 years. If you're not sure how old your roof is, though, or when it was last inspected, then you should have it inspected as soon as possible. You should consider getting tile roofing if it is time for you to replace your roof. Tile roofs are known for being durable; the tiles are made of clay, ceramic or concrete, and are nailed securely to your roof. Additionally, tile is resistant to pests, is a relatively inexpensive material and is environmentally friendly.

Add a Front Porch

If your home doesn't currently have a front porch, then you should consider adding one. A front porch is one of the top things that people look for when they're searching for a home, and it'll be the first thing they notice when they see yours. You can choose a small or large porch when having it built, however, you should make sure that there is enough room for things like fire pits, outdoor furniture and fans. Also, you may want to add some storage space around the area.
